The Universality of Reiki

It is important to note that Reiki doesn't belong to any specific religion or belief system. It is accessible to anyone, irrespective of their faith or beliefs. It complements other medical or therapeutic techniques, reducing side effects and promoting recovery.

Understanding Gassho Meditation in Reiki 💭🌀(Gassho: Pronounced – Gash-Show)

Meditation is a technique used to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. It primarily involves concentration, relaxation, and an altered significance of the mind. Within the context of Reiki, meditation serves to enhance the flow of energy to help improve your health and wellness.

The Gassho Meditation Technique

(Takes 5-10 Minutes a Day, no more than 20-minutes)

1. Sit down, close your eyes and place hands together in front of your chest (prayer position) (see image above)

2. Focus your attention at the point where the two middle fingers meet.

3. Let go of everything else. If your mind wanders, acknowledge the thought, let it go and just refocus returning to the point where your middle fingers meet.

4. Repeat one or all the five reiki principles either aloud or internally. (listed below)

5. If you find it uncomfortable to hold your hands in Gassho for 5-20 minutes, simply let your hands (kept together) slowly drop down onto your lap finding a more comfortable position to continue the meditation.

6. You may observe energy in the form of heat, cold or images, just let it go and return your focal point to the tips of your two middle fingers.

7. If you need to adjust your posture; move slowly, deliberately and consciously. It is easier and better to meditate with a straight spinal column, keeping your head still.

8. If you suffer from back problems or find it difficult to sit still; try sitting on a straight back chair with a few pillows for comfort.

9. Alternatively, you can sit on the floor on a few cushions with your back against a wall. You could even meditate while lying down or a sofa or bed, but you may find you fall asleep, which at night is OK, but in the morning could leave you late for work or other engagements.

The Five Precepts of Reiki Meditation

Reiki revolves around five basic precepts that provide a path to achieve spiritual growth and physical healing. They are advice for healthy living and perspectives that we should incorporate into our everyday life.

They are as follows:

1. Just for today, I will not be angry: Anger causes imbalance in our life force energy. By releasing anger, we promote more positive forms of energy.

2. Just for today, I will not worry: Like anger, worry can cause an imbalance, affecting our mind and body. This precept encourages us to let go of unnecessary worries and embrace peace of mind.

3. Just for today, I will be grateful: Gratitude has a powerful impact on our wellbeing. It raises our vibrational frequency, which can lead to physical and emotional healing.

4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly: Honesty and integrity are key virtues in Reiki philosophy. It creates positive energy and promotes respect for oneself and others.

5. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing: Kindness nurtures empathy and compassion, which can contribute to a harmonious existence and wellbeing.
